I first met Ramesh as I got out of San Francisco airport. He was then a TPM overseeing development of physical design tools at Synopsys. I was a fresh engineer on my first trip to the US. I was to report to him for 3 months on a temporary project.
He had just driven 50 miles to pick me up and take me to his house for lunch, before duly dropping me at my hotel. He obviously didn't need to do any of that. But he did. It was an incredible lesson in showing someone that you care.
Besides, during the projects and beyond, his empathy and leadership always shone through - whether it was pointing me to the right technical mentors, or giving me suggestions about grad school. It has been many years, but Ramesh's method of mentorship has stayed with me.
